OPEN SUD DE FRANCE 2014
The Last Time... With Dustin Brown
by Stephane Gamez|
Charismatic German Dustin Brown is a firm fan favourite on the ATP World Tour and on Twitter (@DreddyTennis). The 29 year old recorded one of the biggest wins of his career at Wimbledon last year, when he upset 2002 champion Lleyton Hewitt to reach the third round. This week, while competing in singles and doubles at the Open Sud de France in Montpellier, he sat down with ATPWorldTour.com to discuss the last time…
I cooked for myself or others?
I’m not sure…..28 years ago (laughs). I have no idea. Me cooking doesn’t happen very often.
I flew economy class?
Actually last year…No!!! On the way here.
I met a childhood idol?
He is sitting over there (pointing to Gaël Monfils).
I shared a hotel room with another player?
Tonight. I’m sharing with [my doubles partner] Austin Krajicek.
I paid money to hire a court or buy tennis balls?
Last year in Germany. At one of the places in Cologne.
I played a practical joke in the locker room?
Good question. The last time I remember it was with [Marc] Gicquel at a Challenger in Eckental. He was sleeping and we took like a smiley face on a piece of paper and put it on his bottom. We took a picture of it and showed it to everyone. He was talking and thought it was gone. He was waiting for his match and it was really late.
I forgot a family member’s birthday?
That’s a few years back and I think actually it was my Mom’s. There was a tournament. I know when her birthday is, but just because sometimes the week goes so fast I didn’t realise the day. But I think it was three or five years ago. Mom was not happy.
Being famous helped me?
I don’t know if I’m famous, but it helps every once in a while.
I strung a tennis racquet?
At home. At home I have a stringing machine so I do it all the time.
I lost something important?
My phone!!…Last year.
I asked someone for their autograph?
I think it was for a friend of mine from Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Australia last year.
I played another sport that might have caused me a minor injury?
Soccer…I think that was three, four years ago. We were practising and then afterwards I was playing soccer so fast I could have twisted my ankle or something so.
I was asked if I was a tennis player?
I missed a flight?
A few years ago. I think it was at the Aachen Challenger. I had a really early flight and I didn’t wake up. I just didn’t hear the alarm.
