Dallas Mavericks basketball star and tennis enthusiast Dirk Nowitzki stopped by the Irving Tennis Classic on Friday to catch some of the action.

Countryman Tobias Kamke was up 6-3 in his quarter-final against Illya Marchenko when the Ukrainian retired due to stomach illness.

Nowitzki, NBA champion with Dallas in 2011 and recipient of the Most Valuable Player award in 2007, took the court to hit with some of the ball kids while fans waited for the night session to begin. He then stayed on to watch World No. 90 and fellow German, Benjamin Becker fall to Steve Johnson 6-3, 6-1.

Saturday's rain-delayed semi-finals are scheduled to resume Sunday morning, with the championship slated for 2pm CDT.
