Bryans Reach Fifth Straight Final In Houston

Houston, U.S.A.

Bryans© Aaron M. Sprecher/ROCCBob and Mike Bryan will vie for their 97th tour-level crown after defeating Chris Guccione and Lleyton Hewitt.

Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, four-time Fayez Sarofim & Co. U.S. Men’s Clay Court Championship titlists, advanced to their fifth consecutive ATP World Tour final on Friday.

Champions in Delray Beach, Indian Wells and Miami, following a runner-up finish in Memphis, the Bryans extended their winning streak to 16 straight with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over the Australian duo of Chris Guccione and Lleyton Hewitt.

The top seeds also improved to 30-7 all-time on the clay of Houston, having won titles in 2007, '09-'11. They will square off with familiar foes David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco in the final, seeking their 97th team title.

Marrero and Verdasco advanced to their ninth final together after defeating the Colombian tandem of Santiago Giraldo and Alejandro Gonzalez 6-4, 6-2. Boasting a 4-0 record in clay finals, the reigning Barclays ATP World Tour Finals champions are eyeing their first title on the surface since prevailing in Hamburg in 2012.

The Bryans own a 4-1 FedEx ATP Head2Head advantage against Marrero and Verdasco, including a 3-0 edge on clay, with their most recent meeting having come in the Sony Open Tennis quarter-finals this year.

This is the first meeting between No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the Houston final since 2007, when the Bryans defeated Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor in straight sets.
