The 27-year-old Spaniard is undefeated in 39 straight matches at this ATP World Tour 500 tournament, with his lone loss coming in the second round of his debut appearance in 2003 (l. to Corretja).
“The [Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell] has always been special for me,” he said. “Always great support from the crowd, a lot of success in the past years for me. I hope to be ready to compete again here, compete well.”
Nadal recorded his 300th match win on clay last week in Monte-Carlo before falling to fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the quarter-finals.

“I’m enjoying the rest these few days after losing Monte-Carlo so I hope to be well-prepared for this tournament,” said Nadal. “I have to play with a little more intensity in my legs, play a little more aggressive.”
Nadal and Ferrer reunited on Monday evening to play tennis at the historic ‘Gran Teatre del Liceu’, Barcelona’s opera house on La Rambla, founded in 1847.
“Obviously I’m very happy I was able to play at the Liceu, it’s one of the most emblematic places in Barcelona,” said Nadal. “I really love music and I have a grandfather who was an orchestra conductor. I had already been here before but it had been a while since the last time I came. This is one of those pictures I will keep forever.”
