Federico Delbonis has enjoyed a career-best start to the 2014 ATP World Tour season, breaking into the Top 50 for the first time after winning his first title at the Brasil Open in Sao Paulo (d. Lorenzi).

The Argentine visited the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell this week and sat down with ATPWorldTour.com to discuss the last time…

Being famous helped me?
I was checking in at the airport and one guy said to me, ‘You’re a tennis player, right?’ I said, ‘yes’ and he helped me with my hand luggage and then we went to the priority lane.

I cooked for myself or others?
Oh a long time ago! It was last year in my house, I cooked for my whole family. It was OK.

I met a childhood idol?
My idol was Maradona. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him, but I want to meet him when possible.

I shared a hotel room with another player?
It was last year at a Challenger. Four of us stayed for a week in Barranquilla. I shared a room with Facundo Bagnis, Marco Trungelliti and Renzo Olivo.

I paid money to rent a tennis court or buy tennis balls?
Last year, in Vina del Mar. We arrived on the Thursday and I had to buy some balls.

I strung my own tennis racquet?
It was three or four years ago, here in Barcelona. I have my own stringing machine and I strung my own racquet.

I asked someone for their autograph or photo?
Good question. I don’t remember exactly, but I think it was at a football match in Buenos Aires. I asked Riquelme of Boca Juniors.

I visited my childhood tennis club?
All the time, because I train there.

I played a sport that might have caused a minor injury?
I have to be careful because I love football, but I am careful not to play whenever I want to.

I missed a flight?
Six years ago, I think. I had a flight from Barcelona to Melia to play a Futures. I had to go back home!

I failed an exam?
When I was 16 years old. It was my last year at school.

I visited a country for the first time?
It was New Zealand this year on the ATP World Tour.
