In a meeting of former Mutua Madrid Open champions, top-seeded Americans Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan defeated Poland’s Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski 7-6(4), 6-3 for a place in the semi-finals.

The Bryans won their five Madrid titles in 2006-07, ’10-11 and ’13, while Fyrstenberg and Matkowski lifted the trophy in in 2009 and ’12.

The American twins are riding a 23-match winning streak, triumphing in Delray Beach, Indian Wells, Miami, Houston and Monte-Carlo to increase their team’s title haul to 98. Mike Bryan became the first doubles player to be inducted into the century club with their victory in Monte-Carlo.

The Bryans next face fourth-seeded Spaniards David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco, whom they defeated last month in the Houston final.

Marrero and Verdasco prevented both Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi from clinching their 200th match wins. They prevailed against the eighth seeds 7-6(5), 7-6(6) after one hour and 26 minutes.

The Spaniards claimed their biggest team title last November when they upset the Bryans in the championship match of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
