See Nadal’s Self-Inflicted Wound

Madrid, Spain

Rafael Nadal nearly did himself an injury while battling Finland's Jarkko Nieminen at the Mutua Madrid Open on Wednesday.

The Spaniard was deep in a rally with his fellow left-hander when Nieminen produced a cross-court forehand that Nadal could not return. The World No. 57's groundstroke penetrated so forcefully that Nadal nearly injured himself while attempting his reply. (Watch the video above.)

In the end, there was no cause for concern. Nadal advanced 6-1, 6-4 in 79 minutes and meets Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals.
