Peya/Soares Reach Madrid QFs; Berdych/Isner Win Opener

Last year’s finalists Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares started their quest for a ninth ATP World Tour team title on Tuesday at the Mutua Madrid Open

Peya and Soares defeated Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot 6-7(2), 6-1, 10-8 in 86 minutes for a place in the quarter-finals at the Caja Magica. 

Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, who have a 1-4 record in ATP World Tour doubles finals in 2014, overcame third seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 6-4, 6-2 in 56 minutes. 

Fourth seeds David Marrero and Fernando Verdasco, who lifted the trophy at the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in November 2013, will challenge Tomas Berdych and John Isner in the second round. Berdych and Isner beat Jonathan Erlich and Lukas Rosol 6-3, 6-4.
