Dimitrov Fifth Among 50 Most Marketable Athletes
by ATP Staff|
On the verge of breaking into the Top 10 of the Emirates ATP Rankings for the first time, the fortunes of Grigor Dimitrov are rising fast. In the latest measure of his star power and off-court appeal, the 23-year-old Bulgarian has been recognised as one of SportsPro’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes of 2014.
Dimitrov, who last week reached his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 semi-final at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, is ranked at No. 5 on the list, behind No. 4 Cristiano Ronaldo, No. 3 Robert Griffin III, No. 2 Virat Kohli and No. 1 Lewis Hamilton.
“Young, talented and good looking – and in a globally popular sport looking for a new star to shine long-term – Grigor Dimitrov boasts all the ingredients to become a brand marketer’s dream,” writes SportsPro.

“Right now he sits on the cusp of a Top 10 ranking but before long he could well be much higher, with many having long singled him out as one to regularly rival the very best in men’s tennis in future. Though that remains to be seen – ATP [World Tour] titles in Acapulco and Bucharest this year were only his second and third to date – it is clear that Dimitrov is already a class act and has the likeability factor to match.”
Dimitrov Named Italian GQ's 'Most Stylish Player'
The Italian edition of 'GQ' has named Grigor Dimitrov the Most Stylish Player of 2014, and presented him with his trophy at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, contested last week in Rome.
The Bulgarian has described his style as "retro" and "rebel" and counts the late British designer Alexander McQueen as one of his favourites.
The 23 year old vaulted to a career-high No. 12 in the latest Emirates ATP Rankings following his semi-final run in Rome (l. to Nadal).
