Karlovic Fires 23 Aces, Edges To Win In Dusseldorf

Ivo Karlovic fired 23 aces on Sunday to creep through to the second round of the Düsseldorf Open.

Karlovic recorded his 13th match win of the season when he defeated Tobias Kamke 3-6, 7-5, 7-6(5) in two hours and 12 minutes.

“It was a very difficult match, really tight,” said Karlovic. “I just managed to win. I was up in the third set 5-3, but then I was able to regroup and focus again. I am really happy that I won.”

Adrian Mannarino will play third seed Andreas Seppi in the second round after he beat Marinko Matosevic 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in just under two hours.

Mate Delic, Mirza Basic, Jason Kubler and Alessandro Giannessi all won through to the main draw from the qualifying competition.
