The Shenzhen Open, which will kick off the ATP World Tour’s three-week swing through China this September, officially launched today.

“It is incredible to think how far China has come in the last 15 years, in relation to the sport of tennis,” said Alison Lee, ATP Executive Vice President, International Group, who attended the launch celebration. “I am proud to say that in that time, I have seen first-hand, China’s growing enjoyment and appreciation of our sport.”

With Shenzhen’s addition to the calendar, China will now host ATP World Tour 250, 500 and Masters 1000 tournaments in successive weeks. The China Open in Beijing will be staging its 16th edition this year and the Shanghai Rolex Masters its sixth.

The Shenzhen Open will be played from September 22-28 at the Shenzhen Longgang Sports Center, a state-of-the-art facility with more than 20 outdoor match courts. Shenzhen also hosted a WTA tournament in the opening week of the 2014 season and an ATP Challenger Tour event in April.

“The Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sport and Tourism, Gemdale and the Kaisa Group have shown great commitment to tennis through the staging of the WTA event here in January as well as the ATP Challenger Tour event for young, up-and-coming male players,” said Lee. “Thank you for supporting tennis and welcome to the ATP World Tour."
