Revisit the week that was on the ATP Challenger Tour as we applaud the achievements of those on the rise and look ahead to who’s in action in the week to come.
A LOOK BACK
Karshi Challenger (Karshi, Uzbekistan): Nikoloz Basilashvili won his first ATP Challenger Tour title with a 7-6(2), 6-2 victory over American Chase Buchanan on Saturday morning. Basilashvili is just the second Georgian to win on the circuit, following in the footsteps of nine-time champion and former World No. 42 Irakli Labadze. The 22 year old, who qualified for his first ATP World Tour event last month in Bucharest, had previously reached just one Challenger quarter-final entering the week. Buchanan, the 2009 US Open boys' runner-up (l. to Tomic), was competing in his first final as well.
What the Players are Saying
Buchanan: "I was really pleased to be able to play in the final of a Challenger. I think it's a big step for me to make my first final and I want to build on this result for the rest of the year. I was happy with the way I played and handled myself throughout the tournament. Looking forward to the summer!"
The ATP Challenger Tour returns to clay for the Internazionali di Tennis Citta' di Vicenza. Peter Gojowczyk, champion in Heilbronn earlier this year, is the top seed. Guido Pella, Blaz Kavcic and Filip Krajinovic are also in action in Italy.
