by ATP Staff|
The Canadian-Serbian duo, seeded third, advanced to the quarter-finals just two weeks after securing consecutive ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crowns in Madrid and Rome. They are seeking a second team title at the clay-court Grand Slam after triumphing in 2010 (d. Dlouhy/Paes).
The 12th-seeded Spanish tandem of Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez will contest their second consecutive Roland Garros quarter-final after a convincing 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Mate Pavic and Andre Sa. The 2012 Barclays ATP World Tour Finals champions will next face top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, who routed Jamie Murray and John Peers 6-3, 6-1. The defending champion Bryans are eyeing their third title on the terre battue of Roland Garros.
Meanwhile, reigning Australian Open champions Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt improved to a perfect 9-0 on the Grand Slam stage in 2014, ousting Jonathan Erlich and Marcelo Melo 6-4, 7-6(5) in 98 minutes. The No. 9 seeds broke serve on two occasions and fired eight aces for the victory.
Also advancing in the bottom half of the draw are Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco following a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Andre Begemann and Robin Haase. The Argentines captured the battle of unseeded teams in one hour and 37 minutes, moving into to their second Grand Slam quarter-final as a tandem. They previously reached the semi-finals of the 2008 US Open.
