Watch Federer's 1 in 1000 Match Point Reaction

Halle, Germany

There's a first time for everything, even after 1178 tour-level matches.

In reaching his ninth Gerry Weber Open final on Saturday, a dialed-in Roger Federer experienced something new as he defeated Kei Nishikori 6-4, 7-6(4).

The second-seeded Swiss lost track of the score as a Nishikori backhand clipped the tape on match point. For a brief moment, he was unaware of his triumph while sauntering back to the baseline to serve again.

"It was the first time in my career in over a thousand matches," exclaimed Federer following the match.
