Milos Raonic, who has a top eight seeding at a Grand Slam championship for the first time, powered past Jack Sock in a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win on Thursday at The Championships.

Raonic lost six of his first service points and as many points at the net in an aggressive display, which lasted one hour and 40 minutes.

“For me the most important thing, especially on grass, is finding rhythm on second serve return,” said Raonic. “I found that quite early on. In both of first two sets, I was able to get early breaks, which helps. I was clean off my service games.”

Raonic will next challenge last year’s quarter-finalist Lukasz Kubot, who hit 66 winners - including 22 aces - in a 6-7(4), 7-6(4), 3-6, 7-6(3) win over Dusan Lajovic.

Tenth seed Kei Nishikori advanced to the third round for the third straight year when he struck 43 winners past qualifier Denis Kudla in a 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 victory.

"It was almost a perfect game for me," said Nishikori. "I able to break his serve early each set. I was more relaxed. Also I was able to attack his groundstrokes. He didn't have a big serve, so I was able to put some pressure on his service game.

"Especially since the clay court season I gained more confidence. My tennis is changing; I'm more consistent and everything is going well. Even on grass, my serve is getting better. I can be more aggressive on the groundstrokes. I try to come in more on grass especially. I feel really comfortable playing on grass."

Nishikori, who has a 31-7 record on the season that includes two ATP World Tour titles, will next meet Simone Bolelli, who edged No. 22 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
