Karlovic Logs 250th Win; Estrella Stuns Gasquet In Bogota
by ATP Staff|
The Bogota defending champion, now with a 250-228 FedEx ATP Win/Loss record, improved to 7-0 at this hard-court event after defeating Jimmy Wang of Chinese Taipei 6-3, 7-6(6) in 84 minutes. Last year, Karlovic won his fifth title at the tournament's inaugural edition without dropping his serve through 60 service games.
Karlovic goes on to face fellow 35-year-old Radek Stepanek, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over hometown favourite Alejandro Gonzalez. The fourth-seeded Stepanek leads 4-1 in the FedEx ATP Head2Head series against the 6'11" Karlovic.
Estrella Burgos reached his first tour-level semi with an impressive win over top seed Richard Gasquet 6-3, 6-4, denying the World No. 14 a fourth semi-final of the year and third on hard courts. It was just his fifth match victory on the ATP World Tour and first over a Top 20 opponent.

Despite serving at 45 per cent for the match, the eighth seed won 19 of 22 first serve points and saved both break points faced, converting on two of his own. Twelve years since turning pro, the Dominican Republic's No. 1 became the first from his country to crack the Top 100 of the Emirates ATP Rankings in early March.
The Santiago native will duel with Tomic for the second time in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, with Estrella Burgos prevailing in the first round of qualifying at this year's ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Rome.
Tomic advanced to the Bogota semis with an efficient 6-4, 6-4 win over Vasek Pospisil in 70 minutes. The Australian hammered 10 aces, saving the lone break point opportunity conjured by his Canadian opponent.
The 21 year old is on the comeback trail following double hip surgery earlier in the year, winning his 10th match of his 2014 campaign. He is eyeing his second final berth in 2014 after advancing as far at the Apia International Sydney (l. to Del Potro).
Guccione Extends Streak
Chris Guccione extended his doubles win streak to six straight after ousting brothers Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana 7-6(5), 7-5, alongside countryman Samuel Groth. The Australian triumphed on the grass of Newport last week with Lleyton Hewitt.
In other action, Nicolas Barrientos and Juan Sebastian Cabal teamed for a 7-5, 6-4 win over Victor Estrella Burgos and Adrian Mannarino. They will meet Carlos Salamanca and Eduardo Struvay in an all-Colombian semi-final after top seeds Vasek Pospisil and Radek Stepanek were forced to withdraw due to a Stepanek hamstring issue.
