VEGETA CROATIA OPEN UMAG
Umag Semi-final Saturday Washed Out
by ATP Staff|
Torrential rain has forced the cancellation of play at the Vegeta Croatia Open on Saturday. Both singles semi-finals and the doubles championship were postponed to Sunday.
ATP Supervisor Gerry Armstrong officially called off play for the day in Umag at 8:41 p.m. local time.
Sunday's play will begin at 10:30 a.m. on both Centre Court and Grandstand court, with defending champion and second seed Tommy Robredo slated to face 2012 titlist and home favourite Marin Cilic. The second semi-final features top seed and 2013 runner-up Fabio Fognini and qualifier Pablo Cuevas.
Cilic is looking to extend his 15-match win streak on Croatian soil when he meets Robredo for the sixth time in their FedEx ATP Head2Head series, while the Spaniard is seeking to reach his 20th ATP World Tour final. Fognini, meanwhile, is competing in his fifth semi-final of the year and will square off with Cuevas for the second time. Cuevas is currently riding an eight-match win streak following a title run on the clay of Bastad two weeks ago.
The doubles final pits fourth seeds Frantisek Cermak and Lukas Rosol against Dusan Lajovic and Franko Skugor. Lajovic and Skugor are looking to become the first Serbian-Croatian duo to win a tour-level doubles title. Cermak is seeking a third Umag crown after triumphing in 2009 (w/Mertinak) and 2002 (w/Knowle).
