In commemoration of a Twitter milestone, Roger Federer conducted an impromptu #AskRF session that became the No. 1 worldwide trending topic Wednesday.

“Just passed 2mil followers!!” he Tweeted around 5pm ET. “In celebration, what do you say we do an #AskRF?”

Federer posted answers on a number of his favourites – Swiss food (Fondue Raclette, Rosti), athlete outside of tennis (Michael Jordan), time of year (Summertime) – before pausing 20 minutes in to issue an apology: “Sorry for the slow responses. Twitter is crashing all of my devices. #AskRF #Doesn’tMatter #We’llBattleThroughIt #Hopefully”.

The Swiss, who will celebrate his 33rd birthday next week at the Rogers Cup in Toronto, fielded questions for an hour and a half, during which he acknowledged the difficulty in keeping up with all of them. He offered tips when asked by a follower on the best way to get his attention during an #RF.

“Send a good question. Or a funny hashtag,” he wrote, before adding, “Or a cool picture.”

Here are some followers who succeeded in getting Federer’s attention:

Federer has hosted a few #AskRF sessions since joining Twitter in May 2013, the first from Shanghai last October and another during the off-season, during which he received questions from John McEnroe and Patrick Rafter.

He also turned the tables on his followers in an #AskedRF session, posting questions and retweeting his favourite responses.
