Their doubles match had been listed in the Order of Play for a start time of 'Not Before 5:00 pm'. At 9pm, Djokovic Tweeted a picture of himself laying on an oversized armchair, prompting his teammate to issue an alert.

They stepped out on Grandstand court after 10pm, and claimed a 6-3, 7-5 win over Juan Sebastian Cabal and David Marrero, with fans filling the stands to watch the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champions in action together.

Djokovic and Wawrinka are playing together for the second time. Last year, they reached the semi-finals at the China Open in Beijing.

They will confront No. 3 seeds Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic for a place in the quarter-finals at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament.
