Pospisil/Sock Beat Bopanna/Qureshi To Stay Perfect

Cincinnati, U.S.A.

Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock maintained their team’s perfect record, improving to 11-0 with their first-round victory over Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi on Tuesday at the Western & Southern Open. The Canadian-American duo defeated the Indo-Pak Express 7-5, 6-2.

Pospisil and Sock won the Wimbledon and Atlanta titles last month, and are currently No. 9 in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings. They next face fifth seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek, whom they upset in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Pospisil also defeated Stepanek in singles action Tuesday, saving three match points in their first-round match.

Following his doubles match, Sock went to the Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati to throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Reds’ game against the Boston Red Sox.

Marin Cilic and Santiago Gonzalez, Rogers Cup semi-finalists last week, closed out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 win over Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot. They next meet Toronto champions and No. 2 seeds Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares.

Robert Lindstedt and Marcin Matkowski, meanwhile, will face Rogers Cup runners-up Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo after rallying past Jamie Murray and John Peers 5-7, 6-3, 10-3. Juan Sebastian Cabal and Tommy Robredo defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber and Gael Monfils by the same score.

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez and Santiago Giraldo rounded out the list of winners Tuesday as they came back to beat Fabio Fognini and Mariusz Fyrstenberg 3-6, 6-4, 10-3.
