Federer, Ferrer, Berdych Lead US Open Day Seven Action

The remaining eight third-round singles matches in the bottom half of the draw on Sunday’s order of play feature four Top 10 seeds – No. 2 Roger Federer, No. 4 David Ferrer, No. 6 Tomas Berdych and No. 7 Grigor Dimitrov. Other Top 16 seeds include: No. 12 Richard Gasquet and No. 14 Marin Cilic. Five unseeded players will feature as well: young guns David Goffin and Dominic Thiem and veterans Adrian Mannarino, Marcel Granollers and Teymuraz Gabashvili.
During the day session on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Federer brings a 50-4 record in Grand Slam third-round matches into a duel with Spaniard and World No. 42 Granollers. The Swiss enters having won 11 of his past 12 matches, following a run to the final at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Toronto and title in Cincinnati. Federer is seeking to reach the fourth round at Flushing Meadows for a 14th straight year since a third round exit on debut in 2000 (l. to Ferrero). Granollers, meanwhile, is eyeing a fifth win against the Top 10 in his 30th such encounter. He is competing in his 28th straight major main draw, looking to equal a best result of fourth round.

In the night match on Ashe, No. 7 seed Dimitrov meets Goffin in a marquee young gun clash. The Bulgarian is looking to reach his third major fourth round of the year, following a quarter-final run at the Australian Open (l. to No. 1 Nadal) and maiden semi-final at the All England Club (l. to eventual champ Djokovic). He won his first match at the US Open with a first-round victory over Ryan Harrison on Wednesday. Goffin will be hoping to claim his first Top 10 victory (0-10).The 23-year-old Belgian saw his unbeaten run of 25 matches halted in Winston-Salem, following three consecutive ATP Challenger titles, a first ATP World Tour crown in Kitzbuhel and a run to the quarter-finals in Winston-Salem as a qualifier.
In the first match on Armstrong, Ferrer brings a 5-1 career record against No. 26 Gilles Simon. Ferrer, who had a walkover vs. Bernard Tomic (hip injury) on Friday, reached the semi-finals in Flushing Meadows in 2007 and ’12. He is on course to finish in the Top 10 for the fifth straight season.
In the next match on Armstrong, Berdych takes on Russian Gabashvili for the second time. The top Czech Republic native is trying to reach the fourth round here for the third straight year and sixth overall. He is coming off a five-set win over Martin Klizan. Gabashvili is looking to reach his second major fourth round (’10 Roland Garros).
In the final match, French countrymen and friends Gasquet and Monfils battle for the 11th time. Monfils has won six of the past 10 meetings, including here in the fourth round in 2010. Gasquet was a semi-finalist last year and Monfils a quarter-finalist in ‘10
On Grandstand, No. 14 Marin Cilic takes a 4-1 head-to-head against No. 18 Kevin Anderson, who looks to reach the fourth round in all four majors this year. Cilic is a two-time quarter-finalist here.
In the next match on, Feliciano Lopez meets the second-youngest player in the third round, Thiem (20), who is making his first third round major appearance.
