Nadal, Casillas Join Forces For Charity Day In Madrid
by ATP Staff|
The event brought together a number of figures from sports and entertainment, including Andy Murray, Feliciano Lopez, Carlos Moya, Serena Williams, Agnieszka Radwanska, football player Thibaut Courtois,
basketball players Sergio Llull and Rudy Fernandez, models Cristina Pedroche and Nieves Alvarez, and actor Dani Rovira.
The participants split into two groups of eight for an evening that included games of tennis, football-tennis, volleyball-tennis and some dancing. Fans at the Caja Magica were also treated to a couple of doubles matches, featuring Nadal/Murray against Lopez/Moya and Nadal/Williams against Casillas/Radwanska, before Nadal and Casillas went head-to-head.
“I’m really thankful to everyone who made the effort to be here to support us,” said Nadal. “Hopefully everyone had a good time at this event, which in the end raised some money for [our] foundations - money that will help us to continue our work with children in need.”
Murray also enjoyed the chance to partake in the evening’s festivities. “This is a great event,” he said. “They put on a fantastic show. A lot of fans came to watch it and they raised a lot of money for the Rafa and Iker Foundations. It was a great day.”
The funds will support the Rafa Nadal Foundation’s “Integration and Sport” project and the Iker Casillas Foundation’s “Inclusive Sport for Differently Abled Children”.
