The switch from hard to clay courts can often be tricky, particularly if it has been 10 months since a player last competed on crushed brick. So, in preparation for the spring European clay court swing, Tecnifibre invited some of its best players to train for a week at the ISP Academie in Nice.
Denis Istomin, who is currently No. 53 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, practised with Marius Copil, Jules Marie, Marton Fucsovics, Dino Marcan and Jeroen Vanneste ahead of the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, as part of the On The Road to the ATP World Tour program. The players tested new Tecnifibre products and provided feedback to the development team, shared tips, built a strong team spirit and left the camp full of confidence.
“Staying the whole week in the same place was very comfortable and a good transition to recover from Davis Cup and a lot of travel,” said Istomin. “It was an honour to lead the Tecnifibre Team.”
Copil added, “You don’t see such initiatives that much in tennis – players from one brand sharing a training camp. I really enjoyed it and it was the best clay-prep before Bucharest and Madrid.”
In 2013, as part of the On The Road program, former World No. 8 Janko Tipsarevic invited four Tecnifibre-sponsored players to train with him individually before the Open 13 in Marseille, the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Monte-Carlo and the Düsseldorf Open. Filip Peliwo and Fucsovics were invited as training partners during the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.
