Alejandro Falla and Santiago Giraldo support Tennis For Colombia, a charity created by a group of tennis players which promotes and encourages the personal and social development of ball boys in order to give them better opportunities in life. Many children in Colombia have to start work at a young age in order to support their families, limiting their chance of receiving a good education. Many of these children work as ball boys at local tennis clubs. For every child that has the opportunity to have an education, there is a family that makes progress. They will help other children in the same family, and the hope is that Colombia will have a better society.
Highlights
Alejandro Falla is a “godfather” in the programme, meaning he sponsors one of the children, helping to pay for school tuition, books, uniforms, transport and food for the ball kids, so they can have an education. Most of the “godfathers” are tennis players.
At the end of 2012, it was announced that in 2013, Tennis For Colombia will receive a $10,000 grant from ATP ACES For Charity.
