Charities and Causes

Small is a private foundation that was born in December 2007 with the intention of combating the fight against childhood cancer. Small’s mission is to help improve medical treatment into childhood cancers as well as the quality of hospital stay for both children and their families.

Based on a long-time personal relationship between Nacho Mercadé Vila, President of Small and Alex Corretja, the former World No. 2 was asked to participate. Corretja has identified himself with Small’s cause from the very first moment he learned about its mission.

Highlights

Small has contributed to financing a number projects impacting the well being of children. Among the projects include the purchase of WalkieTalkies to allow those kids isolated in the chambers of bone marrow transplant to better communicate with their families while having some fun, buying armchairs that permit a better rest for the parents who stay overnight, new TVs, and vital signs monitors.

Small’s current project and also most important one in terms of need of resources, is to build a new Day Hospital for the Pediatric Oncology Service for the Hospital Vall d’Hebron, located in Barcelona, Spain. The budget for this project is €1.5 million and the foundation has gathered over 50 per cent of that figure.

In 2013, Alex Corretja received a $10,000 grant from ATP ACES For Charity.
