Eric Butorac became directly involved with Saint Paul Urban Tennis (SPUT) in 2009. SPUT began in 1991, and has given children from different ethnic and economic backgrounds the chance to learn and play tennis. SPUT works with thousands of children every summer across 55 sites in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
Highlights
Eric Butorac organises a year-end tennis event that specifically benefits SPUT – the Minnesota Tennis Challenge. Some of the participants in the annual events have been Bob and Mike Bryan, Justin Gimelstob, Bethanie Mattek, Somdev Devvarman, Jean-Julien Rojer, Rajeev Ram, Abbie Spears and David Wheaton.
Butorac's fourth annual event in November 2012 raised more than $50,000 for inner city tennis programs in Minneapolis and St. Paul. Proceeds benefited the Fred Wells Tennis & Education Center, Inner City Tennis, Saint Paul Urban Tennis and the Rochester Boys and Girls Club.
“It feels so great to give back to the Minnesota tennis community,” Butorac says. “It is the place where I enjoyed most of my tennis development and hope that many others can share the same opportunities that I had.”
