Charities and Causes

Attrap’ La Balle (“Catch the ball”), founded by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, his parents and a group of friends in 2009, provides underprivileged children in the Republic of Congo with access to sports activities. Tsonga’s father, Didier, is from the Congo. In addition to renovating existing facilities, the organisation has built a sports centre in Pointe Noire, which provides training for the most promising athletes. Attrap’ La Balle also aspires to improve hygiene and nutrition in schools.

In early 2012, Attrap’ La Balle extended its projects to Tsonga’s native France, where it has two missions: to help youngsters bridge the financial gap in sport by paying for equipment etc; to invite youngsters to sporting events as a reward for good school work.

In 2011, Attrap La Balle was one of the inaugural recipients of a €10,000 grant from ATP ACES For Charity. “I am very happy to have received the ATP ACES for Charity grant and want to thank the ATP for choosing my association,” said Tsonga at the time.

“Through Attrap La Balle, I really take to heart helping children in need in Congo, which is like my second country. I know this money will be wisely spent in helping kids to develop not only their sporting skills but also general life skills.”
