Charities and Causes

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation (MWKF) was founded in 1997, and its mission is to develop champions in classrooms, on tennis courts and throughout communities. Originally, MWKF aimed to introduce children to tennis, but later expanded to incorporate academic and life skills programs, as well as mentoring and tutoring as part of its FREE TnT (Tennis-n-Tutoring)  after school youth development program.

The core program of the MWKF is Tennis-N-Tutoring, which is the only after school program in Durkeeville – one of Jacksonville’s most challenged neighbourhoods.
In 2008, the MWKF opened the MaliVai Washington Youth Center. The facility has eight tennis courts, three mini-courts, a basketball court, computers, classrooms, community rooms and a fitness centre.  The MWKF after-school centre serves over 180 youths, and for 16+ years has touched the lives over 17,000 children.

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation was recognised as a Merit Finalist for  Mutual of America’s Community Partnership Award during a luncheon held at the Hyatt Regency on February 20th, 2013. The Mutual of America Community Partnership Award annually honours the outstanding contributions that nonprofit organisations, in partnership with public, private and other social sector organisations make to society.
