Olivier Rochus
Charities and Causes
Olivier Rochus is an ambassador for Tennis for Africa Onlus, a charity organisation headquartered in Rome that offers assistance to children and families in need on the African continent. Since 1998, the foundation has raised funds for humanitarian projects through online auctions and the organisation of sports and cultural activities. Its projects include tennis in Tanzania and Sierra Leone, a cultural music project in Mozambique and DREAM (Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDS and Malnutrition).
Highlights
Tennis for Africa hosted numerous tennis charity events in Italy between 1991-97, supported by the participation of tennis players including Mats Wilander, Emilio Sanchez and Andrei Chesnokov. From 1998 to 2007, along with Internazionali d'Italia, it hosted a "Tennis Day for Africa" event as a way to raise funds and attract media attention. In 2009, the parliamentary tennis teams of Italy, Finland and Russia met in Rome to raise money for the "DREAM" project, financing a treatment centre for children affected by AIDS in Mozambique.
In 2010, the organisation launched a sports charity project in Tanzania. Supported by Olivier Rochus, the Social Tennis Development for Children program aims to promote the social and cultural development of children through the principles of sport and specifically through tennis.
At the end of 2012, it was announced that in 2013, Tennis For Africa will receive a $10,000 grant from ATP ACES For Charity.
