On February 22nd, 2011, an earthquake struck Christchurch in New Zealand, damaging all the courts at Wilding Park, which is the home of Canterbury Tennis.   The facility has 39 courts including 6 indoor courts, 25 outdoor hard courts and 8 grass courts. Canterbury Tennis also hosts many international events and was in the middle of hosting the ITF World Seniors Championships when the February 22nd earthquake struck.

Canterbury Tennis is the second largest region in New Zealand, behind Auckland, and invests approximately 80% of its resources into junior tennis providing a range of programmes and activities at its central venue and around its 110 clubs.

Canterbury Tennis delivers numerous junior tournaments each year including an ITF Group 4 Junior world ranking tournament, a substantial inter-club programme involving upwards of 1,000 teams, a primary schools programme delivering the sport to 15,000 children at 102 primary schools and coaching programmes for all levels of junior players including a high performance programme.

In 2012, the ATP aided the rebuilding of Wilding Park by awarding Canterbury Tennis a $10,000 grant.
