Estoril
Charities and Causes
The Estoril Open and tournament director João Lagos have supported the Academia dos Champs (ADC) since its launch in 2009. ADC aims to enable as many children as possible to take control of their future and to actively shape it through tennis. It identifies locations where a need is spotted and establishes ADC Tennis Centres, offering tennis lessons and tournaments through which children develop social and personal skills that will provide them with a sense of direction.
During the tournament week, the Estoril Open provides ADC with a merchandising stand and tickets for the children in the program. It also supplies the organisation with all necessary equipment to pursue its mission, including racquets and new tennis balls.
Highlights
ADC currently operates three tennis centres located in the suburbs of the Greater Lisboa area: S.O.S Children’s Villages in Cascais, The Outurela-Portela Centre and Trajouce Centre. Each centre supports approximately 25 children year round.
A recipient of an ATP ACES for Charity grant in 2013, the €10,000 will support the cost of a new centre in the Cascais Municipality for a year.
