Charities and Causes
The Malaysian Open, Kuala Lumpur, supports the Dignity for Children Foundation, which operates one of the largest one-stop learning centres for urban poor children in Malaysia. It has eight education programs – ranging from early childhood education and vocational training to sports development and teacher training – tailored to meet the needs of the children to ensure they acquire the academic and social personal skills crucial to their success in breaking the cycle of poverty.
Highlights
The Dignity for Children Foundation has been providing education for the urban poor and the underprivileged for over 10 years, beginning with the formation of the Baby Stimulation and Preschool programs. It opened the first Montessori Preschool for the poor in 2004, and added primary education and secondary education programs as the need continued to grow. It currently serves 700 children between the ages of two and 20.
It aims to implement two additional programs: a Virtual High School Education Program and Practical Living Skills Class.
A recipient of an ATP ACES for Charity grant in 2013, the $10,000 will go towards a new pre-primary education program.
