Charities and Causes

The East Palo Alto Tennis and Tutoring (EPATT) program was founded in 1988 by former ATP professional Jeff Arons. The concept was to provide free tennis lessons for at-risk children.

Early supporters of EPATT included John McEnroe, and the SAP Open made EPATT their official charity in 2003.

East Palo Alto, in California, is a working class community where drugs, crime and violence are an everyday reality. In 1991, EPATT expanded to include tutoring for the youths, and since 1997 EPATT has been located on the campus of Stanford University.

In 2001, Tennis Week Magazine named EPATT one of the top three inner-city tennis programs in the USA. EPATT has also been chosen by the USTA as its featured NJTL program at Arthur Ashe Kids Day.
Over the past twelve years, EPATT students have had a 95% pass rate at high school, with 65% of those students going onto further education. In 2012, over twenty-five EPATT alumni are in university, and ten are in graduate school.
