Jimmy Arias made a large impact on the Grand Prix by turning pro at age 18. In the spring of 1983, he won four titles (all clay) and reached the finals in two others (Boston, Washington). He broke the Top 10 that summer and finished No. 6.
He won the ATP Most Improved Player award in 1983...Qualified for the 1983 Masters (Jan. '84)...Played his first grass court tournament at the 1984 Wimbledon and
reached the round of 16, his best Wimbledon effort...Member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team and reached the semi-finals, losing to Stefan Edberg...Earned a career-high $364,176 in 1984.
