Jamie Delgado was brought up in Tenerife and moved to England aged 10. He had a promising junior career that included winning the 1989 under-12 British grass-court championships, he was the first Briton to win the 1991 under-14 Orange Bowl (d. Cavallaro) and he also captured the 1994 Queen’s Club junior tournament (d. N. Lapentti). He was a member of the David Lloyd Slater Squad, set up by financier Jim Slater and former pro David Lloyd. He turned professional in 1995 aged 18. He has qualified as a singles player for Wimbledon on three occasions (1999, 2004-05) and received a further six wild cards in 1997, 2000-03, 2006. He has reached the second round in 1999 (l. to Grosjean), 2001 (l. to Agassi) and 2006 (l. to Grosjean). Birmingham-born Delgado has won three ATP Challenger Tour singles titles at 1999-Gramado (d. Veronelli), 1999-Belo Horizonte (d. Melo) and 2001-Bristol (d. Peya) from six finals – also 1999-Lucknow 2 (l. to Paes); 2001-Perth (l. to Mazarakis) and Manchester (l. to Bachelot). In doubles, Delgado has won six ATP Challenger Tour team titles at 2002-Bronx (w/ Parmar), 2005-Aachen (w/ Auckland), 2006-Como (w/ J. Murray), 2007-Zagreb (w/ Auckland) 2007-Sao Paulo 1 (w/ Soares) and 2009-Trani (w/ J. Murray) from 16 finals - 1996-Azores (w/ Singer), 1999-Manchester (w/ Lee), 1999-Belo Horizonte (w/ Lee), 1999-Lucknow (w/ Lee), 2000-Belo Horizonte (w/ Lee), 2004-Denver (w/ Marray), 2006-Genova (w/ J. Murray), 2006-Nottingham (w/ J. Murray), 2006-Graz (w/ Auckland) and 2008-Marrakech (w/ Auckland). He has a ‘soft spot’ for Real Madrid Football Club. Bio: James Buddell – September 2009
