A three-time All-America at Notre Dame, from where he graduated in 1992
with a degree in pyschology. In the '92 pre-season collegiate rankings was
No. 1 in singles and doubles (w/Chuck Coleman).
Won a silver medal at the 1991 Pan Am Games in Cuba and teamed with Pam
Shriver to win the mixed doubles gold medal.He was the only male on the team.
In 1991, was voted "Athlete of the Year" at Notre Dame, a feat that has
never been accomplished by a tennis player. "I remember catching some grief
from Rocket (Ismail) and Tony Rice, but they were okay. It is quite an honor
at a school like Notre Dame," he said.
Winner of the Easter Bowl junior tournament in 1988 and a member of the
U.S. Junior Davis Cup team in '87.
In his ATP Tour debut in Philadelphia in 1992, defeated former Top 10
Kevin Curren in the first round before losing to Pete Sampras.
