No. 66 on the ATP computer rankings. He reached two consecutive Grand Prix
finals at Metz (l. Tulasne) and Brussels (l. Wilander). In Brussels he beat
Boris Becker in the opening round and Miloslav Mecir in the semifinals.
Had an operation on his left shoulder (entrapped nerve) in August 1988
before coming back in late September. Missed all of July and August.
Compiled a 11-13 match record and ranked No. 113 on the ATP computer in
1988.
