Began playing tennis at six years old with friends from his village...Growing up played tennis, soccer and hockey but decided to pursue tennis when he was nine...Father, Jan, is a retired maintenance worker at a grade school; mother, Drahomira, works in a bakery...Has one older sister Lenka (born Jan. 17, 1974)...His favorite hobbies are playing soccer and hockey...Plays in annual hockey game in December between Czech and Slovak players...iders favorite surface clay and strength of game return of serve...His best career moment is winning Wimbledon mixed doubles title in 2001 (w/Hantuchova)...Works with Lubomir Gerla at his Spartak Jihlava Tennis Club.

1998 - In singles, reached SF of Slovenian Futures; Made ATP doubles debut at Umag (w/Kovacka); Claimed four Futures titles and one finalist result; Also won a Challenger title in four finals appearances;

1999 - In singles, reached SF at Numbrecht Challenger (l. to Bastl); Also reached SF at two Futures; Once again played Umag (w/Dezort); Won four Futures titles in five final; Runner-up at three Challengers;

2000 - Reached 2nd RD in Tokyo (l. to Kucera); In doubles, made Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon (w/Cibulec); Also played US Open; Won first career ATP title at San Marino (w/Cibulec); Also reached SFs at Palermo, Shanghai and St. Petersburg, (all w/Cibulec); In Challengers, had four titles and three finalist finishes;

2001 - In singles, played in Indianapolis and Basel; In doubles, played first full ATP season; Reached final in Long Island w/Stepanek; Reached QF at Roland Garros w/Cibulec; Duo reached 2nd RD at all four Grand Slams; Reached SFs in Dubai and Umag;

2002 - Won title in Sopot (w/Cermak); That team also reached Palermo final; Reached Australian Open 3rd RD (w/Stepanek); Won Challengers in Ulm and San Marino; Reached Challenger final in Szczercin and Bratislava;

2003 - Open year reaching finals in Chennai (w/Cermak) and Auckland (w/Cibulec); On clay, won title in Casablanca and reached finals in Vina del Mar, Gstaad, Sopot and Palermo (w/Cermak); That team also reached SF at AMS Monte Carlo and 3rd RD at Roland Garros;

2004 - Again enjoyed great success with Cermak, in particular on clay; That duo won titles in Kitzbuhel and Sopot while reaching the Estoril final together; They also reached 3rd RD at Australian Open and Roland Garros together; Also reached Costa do Sauipe final (w/Behrend); Finalist in St. Poelten (w/Cibulec);

2005 - Led ATP circuit with career-best six doubles titles during year, including five on clay w/Cermak; Won back-to-back South American titles in Buenos Aires (d. Acasuso-Prieto) and Costa do Sauipe (d. Acasuso-Gonzalez-King)... Won titles in Casablanca (d. Garcia-Horna) and Estoril (d. Chela-Robredo)... Advanced to SF at Queen’s Club (l. to Bjorkman-Mirnyi)... Teamed up w/Cibulec to reach ‘s-Hertogenbosch final (I. Suk-Vizner)... Got back with Cermak to reach Wimbledon 3rd RD before losing to eventual champions Huss-Moodie... Returned to clay and won Gstaad title (d. Kohlmann-Schuettler)... Teamed with Pavel to win title in Kitzbuehel... Fell in the Davis Cup World Group Playoff in five sets to Haas-Waske (w/Cermak)... Late in the season reached SF at Metz... Finished at No. 10 in the ATP Doubles Race (w/Cermak) and No. 20 individually in doubles...2006-- Enjoyed success in first half of year (w/Cermak) before playing with four different partners in season half of season...Was 24-14 (w/Cermak), including a 19-6 clay court mark...The pair started with finals appearances in Sydney and Vina del Mar...They earned Latin American titles in Buenos Aires and Acapulco...In July, reached SF in Gstaad and following month took home Sopot title...Also advanced to Barcelona SF (w/Bhupathi)...Finished No. 21 individually in ATP Doubles Rankings...Earned a career-high $173,625…

In August at Umag, partnered Polasek to first team title over Cermak-Mertinak 63 76(7)…It was his 16th title in his 32nd ATP World Tour final…First title since July 2007 at Stuttgart...
