severe shoulder injury in 1971, just as he appeared ready to become one of
the world's best all-around players. He won 11 straight Kings Cup matches in
1976. He defeated Vilas at the 1977 Italian Open.
He started playing the international circuit at age 17. Speaks English,
Italian, French, Spanish and Czech.
