Began playing tennis aged eight…First took a racket in hand at age three, but couldn't join a club until he was aged seven…Father, Guus, was a tennis instructor…Mother, remarried and lives in Italy since 1973, with his two half sisters, Barbara and Veronica…Likes to listen to music, player soccer and likes martial arts (practiced Muay Thai for four years)…Favourite music is underground dance and grunge rock…Fluent in Dutch, English, German, French and Italian…One of the most cheerful, friendly and polite players on the tour…Retired from full-time competition in 2002… Graduated from ATP professionals course in 2006…Married to Stephanie Kemler, one son.

1989 – Second at Dutch satellite (20 points), fourth at Japanese satellite (19 points).

1990 – Finished Singapore Challenger runner up.

1991 – Singapore Challenger SF, Jakarta QF, Munich QF; Cherbourg doubles title (w/Talbot).

1992 – Reached first ATP doubles final at Umag (w/Koslowski)…Won four Challenger doubles titles at Munich (w/Thoms), Dublin (w/Thoms), Merano (w/Prinosil)…Runner-up at Heillbronn (w/Nydahl).
 
1993 – Won Munich Challenger doubles title (w/Thoms).

1994 – Won Singapore Challenger doubles title (w/Devening).

1997 – Clinched first ATP doubles title at Dubai (w/Ivanisevic), beating Stolle-Suk in final.

1998 – Won Guadelajara doubles title (w/Hamadeh).

1999 – Won Segovia Challenger doubles title (w/Federer).

2000 – Won Aachen Challenger doubles title (w/Siemerink).

2001 – Won Heilbronn Challenger doubles titles (w/Waite) and Prostjov (w/Gaudenzi).
 
Had career wins over the No. 1-ranked teams: Eltingh/ Haarhuis, Bhupathi/ Paes and Knowles/ Nestor.
