Full name is Tommy Haas…Began playing at age four with his father, Peter, who is Austrian and a former European champion in judo and ex-schoolmate of Hollywood star and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, who came to watch a match in Los Angeles in 2001…Following 2004 Los Angeles win, Haas went to the Governor's house for celebratory dinner…Mother, Brigitte, and two sisters, Sabine and Karin…Moved to Bradenton, Fla. to attend Nick Bollettieri Academy at age 11 and has been there full-time since he was 13…Was No. 11 junior in world ranking in singles in 1995…Reached Orange Bowl 18s final (l. to Zabaleta) in ‘95…Enjoys spending time with family and friends, and watching sports and movies…Admires achievements of countryman Boris Becker…Broke his right ankle in December 1995 (surgery on Jan. 10, ‘96) and his left ankle in December 1996, which also required surgery…Finished high school in Bradenton, Fla. in May 1996…Flew with Blue Angels squadron over stadium court in Indian Wells in 1998…Father opened a tennis academy in Kitzbühel in 1999…Received American citizenship on Jan. 27, 2010 in Tampa and has dual citizenship…Wife Sara Foster (actress), daughter Valentina (born Nov. 14, 2010)…Coached by Carsten Arriens.

2011 -- The veteran German returned from an injury-filled 2010 season to play in 12 tournaments, highlighted by QF in Vienna (l. to del Potro) as a qualifier…His best Grand Slam result was 3R at US Open (l. to Monaco)...Underwent right hip surgery on Feb. 21, 2010 and 1 month later underwent right elbow surgery…Returned at Roland Garros in late May…Reached 2R in Newport and Washington...

2010 -- The German played in four tournaments in first two months before undergoing season-ending right hip surgery on Feb. 21 in Vail, Colorado…One month later on Mar. 23, underwent right elbow surgery in New York…Opened season with 3rd RD at Australian Open (d. Greul, Tipsarevic, l. to No. 10 Tsonga)…Reached 2nd RD in San Jose and lost in 1st RD in Memphis and Delray Beach before being sidelined...

2009 -- The top German finished in Top 20 for third time in four years and seventh time in his career…Captured lone ATP World Tour title on grass in June at Halle defeating No. 4 Djokovic…It was also his first career grass-court title and has won seven finals in a row since ’02 loss in Rome*…Reached 4th RD at Roland Garros, where he led eventual champion Federer by two sets before succumbing in five sets…At Wimbledon, defeated No. 11 seed Cilic 10-8 in fifth set in 3rd RD and No. 4 Djokovic in QF to reach his first SF at All England Club, where he lost to Federer — bringing his winning streak to an end at 10 matches…Jumped into Top 20 afterwards…

Earlier in season reached QFs at San Jose (l. to Roddick) and Houston (l. to Phau)…During summer circuit, reached SF in Los Angeles (l. to eventual champ Querrey) and followed with QF in Washington (l. to Gonzalez)…Then retired in 2nd RD against Gonzalez in Montreal* due to hand blisters…Reached 3rd RD at US Open (l. to Verdasco in five sets) and played in only three tournaments rest of season…Went 3-8 vs. Top 10 opponents and compiled marks of 15-13 on hard, career-best 10-1 on grass and 6-3 on clay.

2008 -- The German finished out of Top 50 for just second time in past 12 seasons following a comeback from shoulder surgery (in Nov. '07)...Opened season in February at Delray Beach and went 2-4 through first four events before breaking through to reach QF at AMS Indian Wells...Posted wins over Roddick in 2nd RD and Murray in 4th RD, but withdrew prior to his QF match against Federer with a sinus infection...Saw limited play next three months, then returned to reach 3rd RD at Wimbledon (l. to Murray)...

Began North American summer hard court circuit with SF showing at Indianapolis (l. to Simon), then advanced to 3rd RD at AMS Cincinnati (l. to Nadal) and SF at Washington (l. to del Potro)...Made last appearance of season at US Open, defeating No. 12 Gasquet in a five-set 1st RD match before falling to Muller in five sets in next round...Did not play after US Open to rest and strengthen his right shoulder...Compiled marks of 15-10 on hard, 3-2 on grass, 0-2 on clay and 1-3 vs Top 10 opponents.

2007 -- Repeated his title in Memphis (d. Roddick) and advanced to QF or better in two Grand Slam tournaments in same year for first time in his career...Also helped his native Germany to Davis Cup SF with a 3-1 singles mark...Opened campaign by reaching SF for third time at Australian Open with wins over No. 8 Nalbandian and No. 3 Davydenko before falling to No. 9 Gonzalez...Then advanced to QF in Delray Beach (l. to Spadea), won both of his Davis Cup matches vs. Croatia over No. 9 Ancic and No. 8 Ljubicic...Then repeated Memphis title without facing a break point (47 games) in tournament...

In March, reached SF in Dubai (l. to Federer) and QF at AMS Indian Wells (d. No. 5 Gonzalez, l. to Murray)... Compiled a 20-5 mark in first three months...His best clay result was QF in Houston (l. to eventual champ Karlovic)...On grass, reached 4th RD at Wimbledon for first time but tore stomach muscle in 3rd RD win over Tursunov and withdrew vs. Federer...Returned one month later in Washington and lost to big-serving Isner in QF...Reached QF at US Open for third time in four years (d. 2006 -- Finished in Top 20 for fourth time in last six years, highlighted by three ATP titles on U.S. soil -- Delray Beach (d. Malisse), Memphis (d. Soderling) and Los Angeles (d. Tursunov) ...Won 49 matches, second-most in his career...Through first four months, jumped off to career-best 23-6 start with half of his losses coming to No. 1 Federer in SF of Doha, 4th RD at Australian Open (in five sets) and 3rd RD in Miami...

In March, advanced to 4th RD at ATP Masters Series Indian Wells, defeating No. 9 Agassi in 3rd RD before retiring due to a stomach virus to Blake...In first clay court outing in Houston, defeated No. 4 Roddick in QF before retiring in first set with a right wrist injury to Fish in SF...Advanced to SF on grass in Halle (l. to eventual champion Federer) and followed with a 3rd RD effort at Wimbledon (l. to Berdych 8-6 in fifth set)... At US Open, reached his second QF in three years with back-to-back fifth set tie-break wins over Ginepri and Safin before losing in five to Davydenko...Closed season with SF at AMS Paris (d. 2005 -- The No. 2 German finished in Top 50 for eighth time in nine years highlighted by four ATP SF -- San Jose, Memphis, Munich and Halle...Also QF in Houston...In May, helped his native country to ATP World Team Championship title over Argentina by winning three of four singles and doubles matches (w/Waske)...In 1st RD at Wimbledon, retired vs. Tipsarevic after spraining his right ankle in warm-ups (stepped on a ball)... Missed one month of action before returning to Los Angeles in late July (2nd RD)... At US Open, lost to Ginepri in five sets in 3rd RD...Then helped his country back into 2006 Davis Cup World Group by winning fifth and decisive rubber against Czech Republic's Zib... Compiled records of 16-13 on hard and 11-7 on clay...

2004 -- Returned to action in February and slowly improved his ranking month-by-month...Captured his first career ATP clay court title in Houston (d. No. 2 Roddick)...Afterwards, climbed from 349 to No. 145...Did not win back-to-back matches again until June when he advanced to QF in Halle (l. to Novak)...Compiled a 14-13 match record through June and went 23-9 from July until rest of season...Began summer hard court circuit with title in Los Angeles, defeating No. 10 Agassi in QF and countryman Kiefer in F...In August, reached QF at AMS Cincinnati and lost 9-7 in third set to Roddick in 2nd RD at Athens Olympics...Turned in QF showing at US Open (l. to Hewitt) and closed season with SF in Vienna (l. to Canas) and Stockholm (l. to Agassi).

2003 -- Missed entire season due to injury...Underwent right rotator cuff surgery in New York on Dec. 20, 2002 and underwent arthroscopic surgery on same shoulder on July 18...Had a protected ATP Entry Ranking of No. 11 in '04

2002 -- The top German just missed finishing in Top 10 for second straight year (No. 11)...Reached his lone final of season at ATP Masters Series Rome where he lost to Agassi in straight sets...His best Grand Slam showing was SF at Australian Open for second time ('99)...Played most of second half of season with on-and-off right shoulder/elbow problems...Retired in three matches and withdrew in middle of another event...Had streak of 20 consecutive Grand Slam tournaments played come to an end with his withdrawal at Wimbledon...

At Australian Open, had a 2-1 sets lead vs. Safin until rain suspended play and forced closure of roof...Lost last two sets 60 62 for his lone five-set loss of year (4-1)...Missed six weeks due to injury and parents' accident on June 8...Returned and reached SF at AMS Toronto (d. Sampras, l. to Canas), Indianapolis and Long Island (W/D to Srichaphan) and each time going out to eventual champion...Then lost in four sets in 4th RD to eventual winner Sampras at US Open...Had a 18-12 mark in tie-breaks and went 26-13 on hard courts and finished No. 9 in aces (552)...Surpassed $1 million for third time in four years

2001 -- Finished as No. 1 player from his country for first time in three years with his first Top 10 year-end showing...Came within one match victory or a loss by Sebastien Grosjean in final tournament of regular season at Tennis Masters Series Paris of qualifying for Tennis Masters Cup...Instead went as an alternate...The Hamburg native compiled his best pro season with career-bests in ATP titles (4), match victories (57) and prize money ($1,544,640)...His four titles were most by a German since Boris Becker won five in 1996...Lost only three opening round matches in 25 tournaments...Eight of his 22 losses during year came to eventual champion...

His best stretch came from July through rest of season as he compiled a 32-8 match record with three titles, three SF and one QF in 11 tournaments...Went 25-13 in first half of year...Reunited with former coach David "Red" Ayme in July after working with three different coaches earlier in season...Opened campaign with a title in Adelaide, defeating Hewitt in QF, Stoltenberg in SF and Massu in F...Suffered a sprained left foot on Mar. 26 during his three-set win over Hrbaty at AMS Miami...Withdrew from his 4th RD match against Agassi and missed Davis Cup QF tie vs. The Netherlands...

Played only one event between Wimbledon and US Open due to back injury (bulging disc) and lost in 2nd RD in Flushing Meadows to countryman Schuettler...Was contemplating pulling out of Sydney Olympics but decided to make trip...Posted impressive wins over Ferreira, Vinciguerra, Corretja, Mirnyi and Federer before losing in gold medal match to Kafelnikov in five sets (3 hours, 35 minutes)...Continued strong play by reaching final in Vienna with victories over Top 10 Corretja, and Frenchmen Clement, Golmard and Pioline (l. to Henman)

1999 -- Captured his first ATP title in Memphis, defeating two-time tournament winner T. Martin in SF and former No. 1 Courier in final...Also reached finals in Auckland (l. to Schalken), Stuttgart-outdoor (l. to Norman in five sets) and Grand Slam Cup-Munich in Munich (l. to Rusedski)...Turned in his best Grand Slam finish at Australian Open where he advanced to SF (d. Hewitt in 2nd, l. to eventual champ Kafelnikov)...Helped his country back into Davis Cup World Group with two wins over Romania

1998 -- Finished as No. 1 German for first time...Reached ATP final in Lyon (l. to Corretja) for second straight year after holding one match point...Also advanced to SF in Philadelphia and Scottsdale...Beat Agassi at Wimbledon en route to 3rd RD...Made Davis Cup debut and went 4-0 in singles in two ties and led Germany to ATP World Team Championship title with 4-0 mark
