No relation to 2002 Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson...Goes by nickname Pim-Pim...Began playing tennis at age five with his father Leif, who was a former Davis Cup player for Sweden in 1974 and was a teammate of Bjorn Borg that year...Mother, Margareta, works in a bank...Born in Lund and spent all his childhood in Sodertalje, same hometown as former No. 1 and 11-time Grand Slam champion Borg...At age 14-15 remembers hitting with Borg at a tennis clinic when he was an up-and-comer...Older brother Niclas couldn't say Joachim as a young boy and used to call his brother Pim-Pim...The name stuck and became Pim-Pim, which is also a well-known hard candy in Sweden...Finished as No. 3 junior in world in 2000 and No. 8 in 1999... Enjoys playing indoors and on fast surfaces...Considers his serve best shot...Named 2004 ATP Most Improved Player of Year...Has a 2-3 career Davis Cup record (1-3 in singles) in four ties...Engaged to Ladies European Tour golfer Johanna Westerberg, who is among the Top 10 on European prize money list (as of Sept. 28, 2009)...He caddied at several tournaments for his fiancé which has earned him Rookie Caddie of the Year award.

2000 -- Played in his first ATP events in his home country in Bastad and Stockholm, losing in 1st RD in both...

2001 -- Claimed one Futures title and reached two other finals...

2002 -- Won three Futures titles and avanced to SF in Nottingham Challenger...Won his first ATP match in Stockholm over Portas before losing in a third-set tie-break to Santoro...

2003 -- Improved ranking nearly 100 positions with solid Challenger results (29-11 record)...Picked up his first Challenger title in Nottingham (d. van Lottum) and reached finals at Groningen (l. to Vliegen) and Eckental Challengers (l. to van Scheppingen)...In April, made his Davis Cup debut vs. Australia in a dead rubber and lost to Arthurs...Advanced to first ATP QF in Stockholm (l. to Sanguinetti)...

2004 -- Finished as No. 1 player from his country for first time, jumping 101 ranking positions...Captured his first ATP World Tour title in Memphis (d. Kiefer)...Opened season with 3rd RD at Australian Open (l. to Ferrero)...Won title in Memphis without dropping his serve in 55 games...Afterwards, climbed from 71 to No. 49...Advanced to 4th RD at Wimbledon (d. Fish, Bjorkman, l. to Mayer)...Reached QF at AMS Toronto (l. to. T. Dent) and turned in an Australian Open-best 4th RD, defeating Lopez 13-11 in fifth set in 3rd RD before firing a personal-best 51 aces in his four-set loss to Agassi...Also hit 38 aces vs. Lopez...In February, dropped only one set en route to title in Marseille (d. Ljubicic)...Did not win back-to-back matches again until June when he reached 3rd RD at Wimbledon (l. to Gonzalez)...Played last event in Bastad on July 5 and lost in 1st RD...On July 27, underwent right shoulder surgery in Gothenburg...Compiled records of 15-5 on hard, 2-2 on grass and 2-8 on clay...In doubles, captured first ATP title in Bastad (w/Bjorkman) and runner-up in Halle (w/Safin)...

2006 -- Overcame shoulder and elbow injuries to return to ATP World Tour towards end of year...Underwent off-season elbow surgery on Dec. 9, 2005 after having his shoulder operated on July 27, 2005...Played one tournament in first half of this season, falling to Warburg in San Jose 1st RD in February...By time he returned to play on July 17, his ranking had fallen to No. 1,171...Broke Top 200 by end of season in just two ATP tournaments played in his return...Came back at Istanbul Challenger and lost to Wang...Retired in 2nd RD of Recanati Challenger against Lammer with a stomach injury...Returned once again in September and played a pair of Futures events, winning one title in Sweden (d. Rehnquist) and pulling out of another in SF...Made return to ATP circuit in Stockholm and reached SF...Defeated Sanguinetti and No. 2 Nadal before winning QF in three tie-breaks over Vliegen (l. to Nieminen)...Reached 3rd RD at ATP Masters Series Madrid with wins over del Potro and No. 5 Davydenko before withdrawing due to illness to eventual finalist Gonzalez...

2007 -- The Swede was limited to three tournaments due to a right shoulder injury...Underwent right shoulder surgery on Feb. 23 in Milan and did not return again until September for a Davis Cup SF tie against U.S. (l. to Roddick in opening rubber)...Only lost his serve once in three sets to No. 5-ranked American... Opened season with SF in Adelaide (l. to Djokovic) and then retired after two games (vs. Garcia Lopez) in 1st RD at Australian Open...After Davis Cup, played one tournament in Stockholm (d. Berlocq), withdrawing from 2nd RD due to illness...

2008 -- In lone tournament of the year in Stockholm, defeated Nicolas Mahut in first round before losing in next round to No. 7 David Nalbandian.

The Swede played in four Challengers between February and May, reaching the 2nd Rd. in Bescancon, France and SF in Izmir, Turkey...Made his first appearance on ATP World Tour in late September in Kuala Lumpur as a wild card, defeating No. 26-ranked Lleyton Hewitt in first round.
