Among the candidates for the best serve in tennis, Eric possesses some
pretty good testimonials in his corner. Yannick Noah once said Korita's
booming delivery was "one of the toughest I've ever faced." The muscular,
handsome Korita has more than a mere serve. He is working hard to improve
his footwork and quickness, including keeping an eye on his calories. When
asked at the 1983 U.S. Open what he was doing in this area, he replied, "I've
started eating just three meals a day instead of six or seven." 1984 was an
off year for Eric, although he and Jimmy Arias did reach the doubles
semifinals at the French Open. The summer of 1983, however, was a successful
one for Eric, but not very profitable; as a member of the USTA Junior Davis
Cup team, he could not accept the $13,000 in prize money he earned for
reaching the semifinals at Washington and South Orange and the quarters at
Columbus. Eric's father is the executive director of the United Cerebral
Palsy Foundation.
