A member of West Germany's winning Davis Cup team in 1988-89. He won his
singles and doubles match in Germany's first round win over Brazil in '89.
Coached by Helmut Luthy.
Started playing tennis at age 9.
Had his biggest career win over Jimmy Connors in the fourth round at
Wimbledon in 1988 en route to the quarterfinals. "This is the biggest win of
my life," he said.
Compiled a 15-14 match record and earned a career-high $168,669 in 1989
while finishing No. 69 on the ATP computer. Prior to 1989, he improved in
last five years on the ATP rankings (741 in 1984, 282 in 1985, 170 in 1986,
83 in 1987, and No. 61 in 1988).
