Paul is one of the game's foremost doubles players whose two-handed backhand creates plenty of openings... He defeated McEnroe in the third round of the 1980 French Open... Member of the Australian Davis Cup team since 1980, including the Cup-winning teams of 1983 and 1986... Paul underwent surgery for a serious kidney problem in 1985... Elected to the ATP Board of Directors in 1984.
