A member of the USTA Junior Davis Cup team in 1985-86. Reached the Wimbledon Juniors semifinals in 1984 and US Open Juniors quarterfinals. Began playing at age four under the guidance of his father, Wayne, who was the Brigham Young University coach for nearly 20 years. Graduated from BYU in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in independent studies. After serving four years as assistant coach, named BYU's men's tennis head coach in 2004.
