Began playing tennis at age four... Older brother, Ales, was ranked among the top 25 in the former Czechoslovakia and now coaches... Finalist in the 1989 Galea Cup and Wimbledon Juniors doubles (w/Zdrazila)... Hobbies are playing soccer, hockey and fishing... Played in annual street hockey challenge in Montreal in 2001 vs. NHL players and scored a goal against partner Novak, who played goalie for NHL squad... Has a 7-4 Davis Cup record (5-2 in doubles)... Wife, Alice (married May 5, 1994); son, Filip (born March 12, 1996).

2003 -- The Czech Republic native spent most of season with Leander Paes as duo won two ATP doubles titles and compiled a 29-13 match record to finish No. 7 in ATP Team Race standings...Also reached final at Tennis Masters Miami (l. to Federer-Mirnyi) and SF at Roland Garros and Wimbledon...In March, captured title in Dubai (d. Black-Ullyett) and followed with SF at TMS Indian Wells and runner-up in Miami...In July, earned clay court title in Gstaad (d. Cermak-Friedl)...From US Open until rest of season went 3-5 with two other partners, including a SF showing at TMS Madrid (w/Palmer)...Paes was sidelined from September until rest of season with a non-malignant brain lesion...Finished No. 14 individually in doubles, his fourth consecutive Top 20 ranking.

2002 -- Won more than 40 doubles matches for third straight year and captured four titles with three different partners...Won first title of year in St. Poelten (w/Pala) for second straight year...Teamed (w/Prinosil) to win grass court title in Halle and reached QF at Wimbledon...Returned to clay in July and won back-to-back titles in Gstaad and Stuttgart (w/Eagle)...Reached finals in Doha (w/Novak) and Acapulco (w/Damm)...Played in doubles action with Novak at least once for 10 straight years...They have a 13-15 career record in finals.

2001 -- Won three doubles titles and finished No. 3 in ATP Team Race (w/Novak)...Won St. Poelten title (w/Pala) and captured TMS title in Miami (w/Novak)...Advanced to first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and won TMS Montreal title...Reached final in Vienna...Earned a career-high $393,992.

2000 -- Won a career-best four titles in six finals and compiled a 47-18 record (w/Novak)...Finished No. 5 on ATP Team Race.

1999 -- Had his eight-year title streak broken after reaching five finals (four w/Novak).

1998 -- Won three titles (w/Novak).

1997 -- Made Davis Cup debut in QF vs. Australia...Won ATP doubles title in Ostrava (w/Novak).

1996 -- Qualified for TMS Monte Carlo and beat Leconte in 1st RD...Won doubles titles in Casablanca (w/Novak) and Bogota (w/Pereira).

1995 -- Won Kosice Challenger (w/Novak) in first event, captured ATP title in Bogota and added second in Santiago.

1994 -- Reached first ATP singles final in Jakarta (l. to Chang) and finished a year-end best No. 73 in singles...In doubles, won Barcelona, Munich and Rome (w/Kafelnikov), along with Vienna (w/Bauer).

1993 -- Won three Challenger singles titles...Won ATP doubles title in Santiago (w/Bauer).

1992 -- Doubles winner in Newport (w/Deppe) ...Won Challengers in Prague (w/Damm) and Guadalajara (w/Deppe).

1991 -- Reached final of Warsaw Challenger and SF of Salerno Challenger ...In doubles, won first career ATP title in Tel Aviv (w/Schapers).

1990 -- Won Heilbronn and Zaragoza Challengers (w/Zdrazila).
