Member of the U.S. Davis Cup team from 1985-89, compiling a 10-1 doubles
record (after 10 wins). Gold medalist (w/Flach) at 1988 Olympics.
An All-America in singles and doubles at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville
in 1983. Teamed with Flach to win the NCAA Division II doubles title. They
won seven titles in their first full year on the tour in 1984 and followed up
with seven more in 1985. They were named ATP Doubles Team of the Year in '85.
In fact, 27 of his 28 career titles have come with Flach -- the 1987
French Open (w/Jarryd). In '87 the duo won two titles, but were runner-up in
six others, including the U.S. Open.
He has reached as high as No. 22 on the ATP computer (Mar. 9, '87) but
injuries dropped his ranking to a year-end 135. Finished 1986 with a year-
end best No. 28. Earned a career-high $394,908 in 1985.
Compiled a 20-14 match record and earned $317,734 in 1988, surpassing
the $1 million in career earnings at Memphis in February.
Dropped to No. 86 in singles (from 37 in '88), but it was still his
fourth top 100 finish in five years.
