A skilled and tenacious player, Tiriac was at his best on hardcourts.
He played Davis Cup for Romania from 1959 through the mid-seventies
mising only the 1973 Cup. After winning the Romanian Closed title for eight
straight years, he lost it in 1967. In 1970 he won both the Italian and
French Open doubles titles teaming with Illie Nastase.
