Alexander Volkov and No. 10-ranked Alberto Mancini before losing to Sergi
Bruguera in the quarterfinals. He jumped from 142 to No. 100, the first time
to rank in the top 100 since May 26, 1986 (at No. 86).
Earned $33,098 and ranked No. 120 on the ATP computer in 1989, his best
finish since 1985 when he was a year-end high No. 93.
